IWD 2025 campaign theme is 'Accelerate Action'

One of the best ways to forge gender equality is to understand what works and to do more of this, faster.

Accelerate Action is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women's advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.

Significant barriers to gender equality remain, yet with the right action and support, positive progress can be made for women everywhere.

As individuals, we can all take steps in our daily lives to positively impact women's advancement.

We can call out stereotypes, challenge discrimination, question bias, celebrate women's success, and so much more. Additionally, sharing our knowledge and encouragement with others is key.

Gender Equality at Knutsford Academy

Here at Knutsford Academy we do not tolerate any form of discrimination and want to continue to develop a school community where everyone feels safe and a sense of belonging.

Led by our Headteacher, Mrs Karen Key, we want to celebrate women in leadership positions and are proud that our Senior Leadership Team and Senior Middle Leaders (Heads of Year, SEND Leaders and Heads of Faculty) are made up of equal numbers of men and women.

We create opportunities through our Student Ambassador programme for students to develop their leadership skills and promote initiatives like the 'Youth Speaks' competition so that our young people are ready to take their place as the future leaders of our society.

Two of our three Head Students in Sixth Form are young women and female students make up the majority of our School Parliament and School Council members. It is fantastic to see our young women and girls taking the opportunities open to them to develop their leadership skills and model these to other students around them.

We are committed to stamping out harmful language and behaviour aimed towards girls and continue to upskill our staff to be able to tackle this. We promote equality through our PSHCE lessons, with explicit content around 'Biological Sex and Diversity' taking place for Year 8 in Half Term 4, 'Sexual Harassment' for Year 10 in Half Term 6, which is re-visited by Year 12 in Half Term 1, and 'Equal Opportunities' for Year 11 in Half Term 1. During Week 23 (w/c 3rd March) our Theme of the Week is International Women's Day.
